The curriculum for English II is somewhat similar to that of English I, but requires greater depth, analysis and critical inquiry. The state content standards spiral upward as students move through grade levels to provide the opportunities for students to expand on and intensify their prior knowledge while growing and learning new content and skills to move them beyond proficiency. English II is a college preparatory course with an emphasis on world literature. Various types of literature are explored through the study of the short story, play, novel, and poem. Students will focus on refining expository, descriptive, and narrative writing and will continue to develop their language skills through vocabulary, grammar, and oral speaking. Throughout the school year, students will be required to participate in small and large group discussions that necessitate preparation, active listening, and insightful, voluntary feedback.
