Mission Statement

To provide quality career programs which contribute to student's educational achievement and the economic development of California through career guidance, employment training, job development and other educational support services for high school students and adults.

Introduction

General Information

ROP offers all students aged 16 or above a chance to explore some great classes . . . exploring a career field before making a commitment to a college major. Through many of the classes juniors and seniors have the opportunity to learn job skills at an actual job site or in a simulated work environment. Career areas such as medicine, computer technology, sales and marketing, design and drafting, visual and graphic arts, acting and television production, music recording, child care, animal training, building trades, electronic and computer aided design trades, automotive trades, cosmetology and manicuring are among the selections described in the following sections from which students may choose.

All ROP classes award high school credits that count towards practical art graduation requirements. ROP classes are offered during the regular school day, after school or in the early evening and Saturdays.Classes are taught by both contract teachers and by vocational credentialed specialists who are experienced or employed in their respective fields. They offer realistic and practical learning experiences in a variety of settings. Each completing student receives a certificate of achievement identifying the competencies learned in the class.FOR INFORMATION ON DAYS AND TIME OF EACH CLASS, SEE THE ROP COUNSELOR, ROP TECHNICIAN OR YOUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR IN THE COUNSELING OFFICES AT AGOURA HIGH SCHOOL OR CALABASAS HIGH SCHOOL.

Work Experience Program

How Does it Work?
You MUST have a JOB at August registration. Your job must be within the general boundaries of the Las Virgenes Unified School District. Our district stretches from Woodland Hills to Westlake so you should have no trouble complying with this requirement. We will stretch the rules a little but we will NEVER approve a job site in Malibu, Los Angeles, Simi Valley, Pasadena, Sherman Oaks, Burbank, etc. Note: It doesn’t make a difference if you are here on permit. You must comply with the same rules as students who live within the district.

You will be assigned you to a class depending upon the kind ofjob you have. Our classes are retail sales, child care, office or food services. You will attend this class once a week. Attendance in this class is MANDATORY in fact, much of your grade depends on excellent attendance.

You must work a minimum of 10 hours per week at your job. Your employer will sign an agreement that you will not be scheduled to work during your class time. Your teacher will come to your job site on a regular basis to evaluate your performance on the job and get time sheets signed.
