AHS Gay/Straight Alliance
AHS-GSA Video Project

Do something to make a difference!

Do you want to participate?

Purpose:

Tell stories of students who have been hurt by name-calling or physical attacks in local public schools. The video will become part of training provided to faculty and staff of the Las Virgenes Unified School District in Fall of 2009.

Method:

Student videographers will interview students who have experienced harassment themselves or who have seen others harassed. The students will all be asked the same set of questions, though follow-up questions may be asked. The questions will be given to the student interviewee ahead of time as part of the process of gaining permission for the interview. The resulting interviews will then be edited for the purpose of making dramatic to faculty and staff the problems faced by students who are seen as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, butch, feminine, etc. The video and training will be offered to faculty and staff of elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools in the Las Virgenes Unified School District.

Participants:

Interviewees

Interviewers

Any student with interviewing experience who is good with a microphone and has good screen "presence."

Production Assistants

Sound technicians, video technicians, journalists (to write the questions), make-up and hair artists, costumers, video editors, etc.

Time Frame:

All planning, production, interviewing, and post-production will occur during the 2008-2009 school year. A definitive calendar has not yet been established.

What do I do? Warning:

It is not the intention of the AHS-GSA to show the video interviews to students, but we cannot guarantee that a copy of the tape will not be seen by students.
